Statement of intent-
What is my chosen theme?
My chosen theme for my gcse main project is going to be around landscape and I am going to look at different types of landscapes, such as lakes, tree, miniature landscapes and possibly my own local Landscapes. I have chosen to do this because it gives me a wide variety of creativity and I am in an area where I can go out and look at the chosen theme and it will allow me to try out new techniques.
What research do you intend to carry out based on this theme?
In order to produce a successful and creative final main project I need to start by doing some in depth research around my theme. The way I am going to do this is by looking at inspirations across the internet and also look in magazines, Pinterest, look on the internet and look at famous photographers landscapes. After doing my research I will make mood boards ,coggle mind maps etc. to show my thoughts and inspirations.
I hope to explore lots of different options so that I build a high understanding of the theme which I will present at the end of the project. I will also create a Pinterest account and find a wide range of pictures to maintain and gain inspiration from a variety of different pictures. This will allow me to have a very successful project and will inspire me. My main aim is to create a very personal project to me and where I can explore and develop my photography techniques and skills.
What photoshoots do you intend to complete during the project to help explore the chosen topic?
I attend to capture a variety of different shoots for my project . In year 10 we went to the lake district and focused on capturing the natural landscape focusing on the autumn colour and soft light. Also studio shoots that explore texture in the landscape (bark ,moss ,lichen), go to my local area, take landscape images, fantasy landscapes then I can edit them on photoshop and combine my portrait knowledge with this project to make fantasy worlds. With this project I might take my work on a journey and create collage landscapes .
Which artists and photographers am I going to research?
Stephanie Jung, Alessio Trerotoli, Francessa Paler, Berenice Abbott, Aaron Siskind, Michael Kenna.
What techniques with the the camera and photographers am i going to develop my theme?
Throughout my project I intend to use as many processes and techniques as possible to gain a high quality project. For example photoshop- aperture, white balance, shutter speed, iso, composition, exposure, rule of thirds. When I am using my camera I will leave it on manual setting so that I can control the images I am taking . If I am taking photos outside I will have to constantly check my iso, white balance, shutter speed, aperture to make sure my photos are clear because the light is going to change . I can develop my creative techniques to enhance my work. When I am in photoshop I hope to use layers ,saturation, opacity, brush tool, dodge and burn, sharpener, blur tool, spot healing. In this project I Could also use my mobile phone to extend my knowledge further and manipulate images using the app snap seed or lens flare this app can change filters etc.
What do I hope to learn more about in doing this project?
By doing this project I hope to learn more about the theme of landscape but also how to take my work on a journey and create a meaningful project . In order to do this project I am going to watch more photoshop tutorials, learn more about the lighting, take local images in my location, videos or short films.
What do you see as your final gallery project?
For my final project format I want to have a collage of landscape, fantasy(fairies)and also make a film.

Photography research-
Sunrise over Haystacks, Buttermere by Martin Lawrence
Context-
Since I was in my teens, I have been obsessed with wildlife and the countryside. I was hooked and my photography journey began. Once you take up photography, you start to see the world through different eyes and for many years I spent all my free time away from my job in IT wandering the spectacular Scottish and Lakeland mountains with my camera in hand. It was such a privilege to be able to capture the scenery and wildlife that I loved so much. I decided to turn professional in 2005.I live in leafy Broughton on the outskirts of Preston with my wife Sheila who helps me to run our business. We also own a pine lodge at Bassenthwaite near Keswick where we spend much of our free time and which I use as a base for my photography workshops. My two daughters, Debbie and Rebecca, both live and work in London but take every opportunity they can to return ‘up north’ to their roots and enjoy a day out in the Lakes followed by a meal in a great Lakeland pub. -https://www.martinlawrencephotography.com/profile
Connections-
I like their work because his work and my work and his work are very similar. He likes to take take pictures of the lake district I can relate to him because I also have images of the lake district. His strengths of his pictures is that he uses rule of thirds and other amazing settings. His weakness is that he work is just the lake district maybe he could go out of his comfort zone and try something different.
Composition-
In this image I can see Martin has used the rule of thirds where the mountains are in the top third and the lake below is the 2 thirds. The use of the rule of thirds shows that he is showing he is using his camera very effectively. Furthermore in this image I can see that there is a strong gravel shoreline, trees, the building and the mountains. The reflection shows that it is symmetrical with the top half. The colors of the sky and the trees shows that the image is taken in the morning because of the sun shining in the sky but yet still a little bit of sun. When I look at this image my eyes go straight to the white house because it is just there and is in the middle of mountains and trees also is very eye catching. When martin was taking this image I think he has used a telescopic lens as everything is in sharp focus with a depth of field. I can see that this image is taken at eye height because it is right in the center and it shows everything not just high up or too low down. The use of the tree is just as good as the use of mountains because it is taken at eye height so you can see everything that your eyes would see when you are there. I like this picture because I think it is simple but yet effective with all the settings he has used. This image inspires me because I also went to the lake district so it helps me with my pictures and what I can do with mine.
Inspirations-
I hope to achieve images like this because they are beautiful images and I like how he takes his pictures.

Daniel Coyle- Dreamy sunrise
Context-
Daniel Coyle is a photographer from ST Louis, Missouri, United States. When he takes his images he takes them all over the world. Daniel likes to take pictures of Landscapes, Weddings and many more.
Composition-
When Daniel is taking this image he has included a lot of foreground because the camera is closest to the path in the water but then in the background there is mountains then the sky. In this image I would say the path is the strong leading lines I think Daniel has done this because then the person who is looking at the image will automatically look at the path because it stands out . This has a strong impact on the picture because then it draws attention to the image. When Daniel was taking this image he would have been thinking about rule of thirds and sweet spot because he has used it very clearly. For example the path is right in the middle whilst the water is on either sides of the path. The use of rule of thirds makes the image a lot more developed and higher level , because when you look at the image it is not boring and it catches your attention. This image is taken from eye level because he has everything in the image, mountains, water, path and sky, which makes the image a lot more developed. In this image I think the F-stop is around 22 or higher because everything is in focus, Daniel would have used this F stop because he wanted every part of the image in focus otherwise then there would have been no point in the image because the image is about the sunrise. When taking this image he would have put the ISO at 800 so then it is nit too bright but not too dark, so 800 is just about right. The image is not over exposed it is just right and is very clear. I think Daniel Coyle has used a tripod because the image is very still, not blurry and clear. If he would have used a camera it would have not come out like that so I think he would have used a tripod to get the best possible image. After Daniel would have taken the image I think he would have used Photoshop, I think he would have used it on the sky and changed the colors to a more brighter and colorful . For example he would have changed the Saturation. The main colors of this image are pink and purple , I would say they are the main colors because they are the colors that stand out and when you look at the image it stands out and gets your attention. I do not think this image has been cropped . To make his work even better I think he could have added some trees in the corner of the image because then it gives the image something else to look at and the trees will catch your attention.
Connections-
I like Daniel Coyle's work because he takes very similar images to me and I also like how colorful they are. His images with color catches my eye because I would like to do something in my work with color. His work is very beautiful and very developed the way he takes his images is amazing and I like how simple they are but yet still so effective. He uses a lot of useful and brilliant photography techniques that make his work very impressing. His work links to mine because he has images with paths, water and mountains and I have got images of them so it relates and links together well. Daniel's main strength is that he has used rule or thirds very clearly . One of Daniel's weaknesses is that he could have added more to his image, for example trees or bushes.
Inspiration-
I would like to achieve an image like this because I have images like this so it would not be hard I would just need to develop the colors in Photoshop. Also I would like for my out comes to look like this and then maybe to develop the outcome I will add geometric shapes on the image to get a high grade.

Photography Research Ansel Adams-
Context-
“Ansel Easton Adams was an American landscape photographer and environmentalist known for his black-and-white images of the American West. Born-20 February 1902, Western Addition, San Francisco, California, United States.
Died: 22 April 1984, Bariatric Surgery Center at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, Monterey, California, United States” sourced from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ansel_Adams
Ansel Adams takes his image in his landscape location. This picture is in the mountains with a lake and grass. It is black and white the grass is a very dark black against the sky and the sky color is hitting the lake so it reflects the brightness with the dark clouds. Ansel has chosen to do this theme because it creates a spooky mood and it makes me feel like the photographer is alone and is on a walk.
Connections-
I like this image because it is very different and in very much detail. I think this picture has been taken with a professional camera and a tripod to make it look perfect . When i look at this picture my eyes go straight to the lake and how it is set out , this is because the mountains are far away from the camera. The photographer has used the rule of thirds, the mountains are the 1st with the clouds high up the 2nd is the lake all the way around, and the bottom half is the side of the lake and grass . I think the photographer has done this because then your eyes have allover to look at . This picture links to mine because I have landscape pictures like this from the lake district trip. I took images with the rule of thirds like this, with the lake at the bottom with the grass in the middle and the sky at the top, so they are similar. The strength in this picture is they have used the rule of thirds. The weakness is that there is no excitement in the picture that will catch the viewers eyes instantly.
Inspiration-
I hope to take images like this because I have pictures like this and I could achieve this.
Composition-
In this image there is rule of thirds , the mountain is the top third and the lake and round is 2 thirds. In this picture the lake is a strong leading line because it is something your eyes look to straight away. This technique draws the viewer's eye to the lake and the mountain in the image.
The image is shot by high up so it will be taken from the opposite mountain as it high up and it is looking down capturing everything. Also Ansel would have used a tripod because the picture is so sharp and still to capture the perfect image. In my opinion I like how he has changed the picture to black and white as I think it looks better. In this picture I can see there is clouds so I think this picture would have been taken around the after noon time as the clouds look dark so maybe the picture was taken on a gloomy day and the lightening looks dark not a bright as a sunny day. After looking at this picture I think this would have been taken in the winter because it doesn't look sunny and bright. Futhermore looking at this picture I think the shutter speed would have been fast because the lake looks sharp and still. Personally I like this image as it looks very peaceful and calm and when looking at it I can imagine being there.

Last year in October I went to Coniston we went to the lake district we took pictures and they had a schedule of photos they needed to take for 2 days, animals , rivers, landscape, trees, mountains. I also went on a boat trip and I captured the most amazing pictures of fog and clouds.
The photographers I am going to use for inspiration are Legan Rooster and Martin Lawrence. I chose these photographers because they use similar aspects to the pictures I will take and use good composition of landscape. These photographers take good pictures that relate to my pictures as well. They use color and composition to create effective images that we find appealing and like to take inspiration from. For tutorials i will watch YouTube videos that relate to my work and help from peers. I have started to develop my pictures by going on google and finding geometric shapes to do a different kind of style to my own photography using the pictures I got on the trip to make my work effective. I will develop our images from going from adding simple filters to big complicated tools blending, clipping masks and more. This will ensure my final outcomes are very effective . This will ensure my final outcomes are very effective .
My next photo shoot I will go in to Manchester city Centre and get pictures to extend the variety of images in my galleries that I can edit to make them similar to my artist research Legen rooster And Martin Lawrence to make my work more effective.

My theme for Photoshop- Geometric

After-
The before and after on these pictures are amazing in my opinion. In the first picture the depth of field and the picture itself is great but I think it looks so much better developed and with Photoshop on it. Also I like how the colors are different the dark blue from the trees and the tone of blue compared to the lake looks good.

Then I decided ...
I changed the brightness because personally I didn't like how the black and white wasn't dark enough against the red and green. I chosen to do the black and white theme and then keep a part of the picture in color so I left the berries and leaves in color the black and white against green and red looks good.

I think this image isn't my best because the triangles are not cut off properly and they do not look professional, so on my next image I am going to do better.

After-
Whilst I was on Photoshop I thought it would be a good idea to work on my skills and watch a tutorial to help me with my skills so I can develop them in further outcomes and get the best outcome I can. So as you can see I figured out how to do diamond shapes and copy and paste them. Also I figured out how to put lines on and through the shapes. At first I added a background in the shape but then I didn't quite like it so I changed it.

Progress in Photopea
Picture didn't save properly but I left it at the blue colour after I used the colour saturation. I think the picture looks better once edited in Photopea as it is unique.

After Photopea
After working on Photopea I like the picture at the end of this process because I think its different and I like the colour change. To change the colour change I used the colour saturation button.

After Photopea
I developed my picture in Photopea by using black and white filter and changed the exposure . I like the final outcome as it is pretty and I learnt how to put a spotlight on the picture.

Process in Photopea
After Photopea
As you can see here I used Photopea to create a picture using layers , I really like this outcome but I think I could do better so next time I do layers on Photopea I will improve my pictures. I also changed the background by adding a background in from google.

Progress in Photopea
After Photopea
I have developed my picture by adding a number of layers to make my picture more interesting. I like this outcome as I changed the opacity to different numbers to achieve a different affect on each layer.

After Photopea
I like this outcome a lot , I like how it has a frame outside of it and it isn't a strong frame because I changed it to be more subtle .

Final image
I developed this picture by adding a extra layer and putting a color gradient on the background couler to make the colors contrast and opposite colour's . I enjoyed doing this outcome as it very creative and it was fun to do.

After photopea
I developed my picture here by using the warp tool and I really like the outcome I thought it was boring with just a white background so I added a layer and put a pink gradient on the background as i thought it would look better.

Developing my ideas futher and refining my final gallery.
So far in my project I have been using 2 different pieces of software. I have been developing my own photographs so that I can enhance my final outcomes and so they are the best they can be. The tools I have been using are the shape tool, lens flare, magic cut , selection tool , stroke adjustments and layers. This this has helped me to develop my techniques and my knowledge the more I have practiced the more I have improved my skills and I have looked at tutorials the better my outcomes have become.
The technique I found effective was the one when I put circles on circles and it went from dark to light , however I didn't like the flowers on a background as I didn't enjoy it and I didn't think it was very effective and I don't think I had the right picture.
For my final outcomes I plan too carry on with geometric shapes and use the layers tool to put shapes on shapes effectively and come out with a theme around geometric.

Planning my final design
For my final design I want it to be colorful and using geometric shapes .I want it to be colorful so then it stands out and will be eye catchy. So far in Photoshop I have enjoyed using the tools . For example the line tool and shape tool and using the circle shape tool I have used some good techniques to make my outcomes perfect. Also I have been using eraser tool to remove unnecessary objects. The work I have being doing links to my research because I have been researching different people for example - Legan Rooster and Martin Lawrence. I am inspired by Martin Lawrence and Legan Rooster because they design their outcomes in a way I want to do. When I was doing my outcomes at home I successfully managed to watch tutorials and make outcomes that have fitted my journey . For my 8-10 outcomes I want my final outcome to have geometric shapes. For this I will borrow a camera from School and I will take pictures of landscape in Manchester. I will like to take pictures of a view in the day time and on Photoshop and edit the colors of the sky to a different color to make it different. I would like to do this multiple times of different places and edit the colors using the selection tool and then the gradient tool to make it fade and blend. After I have done that I will use the line tool and the shape tool to add my geometric shapes onto the picture. The tutorials that have inspire me are https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxA_yfUeEU4, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJBrasiyRkY ,https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcLjyGbF40Y and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRt8jtZrPJI ,https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJBrasiyRkY&t=31s. These tutorials have inspire me because I want too do similar outcomes as I really like them.

Evaluation-
My project theme was landscape - Geometrical ,Location ,Colours, Time of day Landscape. In general I liked the trip as it was fun and was a perfect way to capture different textures of Landscape, different times of the day and natural landscape. As the project was in Autumn it was perfect to get pictures of the Lake District as all the color and texture was perfect to take pictures. When taking pictures it could be difficult to capture the perfect aperture and the perfect shutter seed but I think I did it well on this trip.During my landscape project I learned to create and add shapes on to my own image and customise the image by adding geometric shapes .
My favorite part was using Photoshop and using the camera. I liked using Photoshop because I like learning new techniques and developing my pictures . Furthermore I like working independently as I know I can creative. For example like duplicating layers, geometric shapes and lines , layers, filters however when watching tutorials they didn't always work but I have learnt from my mistakes. Sadly because of covid-19 pandemic I didn't get too get other pictures but it would have a good comparison as I only have pictures of the Lake District. I also like using the camera as I could learn new techniques as before I never had a clue how do it. For example like aperture, white balance and shutter speed. Over all I think my work has gone on a journey as before this project I was frightened and always doubted myself ,through the entire process I have gained many skills and techniques that I previously had not had access to so I think my work has improved from the start massively.
In the future , I would like to learn how to make a film fill of my pictures or how to make pictures from another angle . I would like to learn this because I think it will look good on my website and it will make my techniques better as I will have to learn new techniques.
In this project I researched 3 different Photographers but who inspired me the most was Legan Rooster he inspired me majorly as he does Landscape with geometric shapes and bright colours through his impressive Photoshop skills. His work influenced my outcomes greatly as his work was the inspiration on the basis of my work. Many of my outcomes are inspired from his work and I have changed them up some how in Photoshop. I chose him because I knew that it would help strengthen my Photoshop skills and give the outcomes I need to be satisfied with myself as I find his work very good and high level.
I think my most successful part of my work was how I we on vacation and took good and appealing pictures as it helped me massively as I had pictures I knew I needed and wanted yet also that were perfect. Also I also think how I used Photoshop was very good as the before and after pictures were good and there was a big difference, I was very proud of how my images came out as it showed me that I have learned much and been on an impressive journey with my skills, that has been shown through my work. Furthermore my images after Photoshop were also great as they came out exactly how I wanted them, I was proud that I was able to produce outcomes as high of a standard and quality as Rooster did.
On this journey I wouldn't really say I came across any problems except COVID-19 as it limited what I could do and where I could go , as we couldn't go on any trips or I couldn't go out independently. As we were at home self isolating I came across many challenges for example we couldn't use Photoshop at home so we discovered Photo pea and I really liked and enjoyed it , also came across Snap seed . This negative became a positive because we learnt new techniques and I become more independent as I had no one there to help me. From this I learnt that I am independent as I can be by myself. When doing my designs I figured that they were good and as I was always focused as no one was there to distract me and I was always focused. This helped me on my journey as a negative turn into a positive.
